Rabbi Reuven Chaim Klein is an author, researcher, and rabbinic scholar whose work focuses on Hebrew linguistics, Jewish thought, biblical philology, and the intersection of classical rabbinic learning with modern academic inquiry. He is best known for books such as Lashon HaKodesh: History, Holiness, & Hebrew and God versus Gods: Judaism in the Age of Idolatry, both published by Mosaica Press. His scholarship often explores the meanings of Hebrew roots, the development of biblical and rabbinic terminology, and the broader theological and historical implications of Jewish texts. Born and raised in the Orthodox community of Valley Village, California, Rabbi Klein received his early education at Emek Hebrew Academy and then studied at Yeshiva Gedolah of Los Angeles. He later spent many years in advanced Torah study at Yeshivas Mir in Jerusalem and at Beth Medrash Govoha of America in Lakewood, New Jersey, building a reputation as a serious talmid chacham with broad interests in language, history, and text study. He has received semichah from Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch and other leading rabbinic authorities. In addition to his books, Rabbi Klein has published widely in both popular and scholarly venues. His work has appeared in publications such as Jewish Bible Quarterly, Kovetz Hamaor, Kovetz Kol HaTorah, Journal of Halacha and Contemporary Society, The Jewish Press, OhrNet, Times of Israel, and The 5 Towns Jewish Times. He is also known for recurring columns on Jewish names and Hebrew synonyms, including “Names & Numen” and “What’s in a Word?”, through which he brings philological precision and conceptual depth to a broad readership. Rabbi Klein’s writing bridges traditional and academic approaches without losing fidelity to the mesorah. In Lashon HaKodesh, he surveys the sacred status and historical development of Hebrew through Tanakh, Chazal, and classical commentaries, while God versus Gods examines avodah zarah in Tanakh and Jewish tradition with an eye to both textual nuance and intellectual history. This combination of rigorous source analysis, linguistic sensitivity, and accessibility has made him a distinctive voice in contemporary Torah literature. He currently resides in Beitar Illit, Israel, where he continues to write, teach, and publish. He has also worked with the Veromemanu Foundation and has been involved in research initiatives such as Oz V’Hadar’s Mishnayos Shearim project, reflecting his ongoing commitment to scholarship and public Torah education.
